Havoc's post motivated me to dig up this old draft and finish it.
Encounter :
A heavily pregnant noblewoman, Pia, wrapped in blue robes and carrying a parasol. She is haughty and irritable; for a year now, she has delayed giving birth (through sheer willpower). Accompanying her is a small retinue of handmaids and servants, as well as her trusted advisor, the sorcerer Nebo. He is fat-faced and shaven-headed; obsequious and cunning; he carries a polished mahogany horoscope board along with sundry magical instruments. Secretly, he is the runaway king of an antique land.
Together, Pia and Nebo are searching for the astrologically perfect time and place for Pia to give birth, that her child might grow into a world-conqueror. They will pay with old jewelry and silks for information about astrological phenomena, portents, and magically significant locations.
