An Insight On Spontaneous Writing

I have oft seen others about the RPG blogosphere bemoaning how they progress at a torturous crawl through the projects they are invested in, and yet can pump out an entire setting, ruleset, or what have you, in single sitting and enjoy the process too!

While I was walking my dog I was struck with a thought on the matter (as I have experienced it my self). The thought being thus...

The reason (maybe) it is so difficult to proceed on a project you have invested heavily in and indeed love is that the longer you struggle and mull over it the more you develop an idea in your mind of what it looks like. Now the problem comes about when you try to transfer that nebulous image to ink. You have so invested in the image in your head that it is a struggle sometimes to do it justice on paper. It is the process of trying to convey an image unique to you. And the more you think on the idea the more solidified your internal idea is and the more difficult it can be to express.

Contrast this with spontaneity. You have no preconceived notions, at least not many, you're working off a few ideas and extrapolating as you go. In effect you are writing out the creation of your ideas as they happen, building the aforementioned image. There is no struggle (or, well, not nearly as much) because the ideas are being actively created at the moment!

Thats all for today. Hope this was helpful to someone!
